Cresconians 1 Silhill 12
LAST Saturday, September 29, away at the Warley Sports Club, Tat Bank Road, Oldbury, history was made as Silhill recorded their highest score in the Premier Division of the Birmingham & District AFA for 75 years, with a stunning 12 goals comprising six per half.
Both of Silhill’s stellar goal heroes, Ross Jackson with six and Lee Powell with five, will now have much to tell their grandchildren. Silhill team captain Darren Lea scored their ninth goal.
Powell started the rout and a day of misery for Cresconians’ keeper Adrian Skidmore in the 15th minute, heading in from Scott Tanser’s cross. Tanser was also the provider a minute later, as Ross Jackson drove in for 2-0. Six minutes elapsed before Jackson ghosted in from the halfway line to shoot over the advancing Skidmore.
After another minute, Lee Powell hammered in the 4-0 from Jackson’s square pass.
Never-say-die Cresconians also went close, having two goals disallowed, however a brace from Jackson made it 6-0 at half time.
There was no let up in the second half as Old Sils ran riot until finally, after a Cresconian consolation goal by their striker Dale Huckfield, Powell brought down the curtain a minute from time with a fitting piledriver.
Meanwhile in the second round of the AFA London Intermediate Cup, Silhill 2nds beat Old Woodhouseians 4-3 on penalties after the teams drew 3-3.
