Coventry Sphinx 1 v 2 Highgate United
A DJ Pitt brace earned ten men Highgate a thoroughly deserved win over fellow strugglers Coventry Sphinx, the three valuable points lifting the visitors two places above the Midland Football Alliance drop zone.
Gate had already lost two games to their hosts this season but despite having to endure long periods of pressure from what was a physically stronger home team battled hard for the win.
An injury to Alex Price during the warm up meant a starting place for Elroy Bennett, the front runner combining with Andy Fraher on the half hour mark to create the opening goal fired home by Pitt from close range.
Five minutes before the break Pitt completed a quick brace running on to Ollie Casey’s pass to beat keeper James Connolly at his far post, the two goal lead being halved on the stroke of half time when a failure to defend a free kick set up Richie Cutting for his side’s only goal of the match.
On Saturday Studley visit Tythe Barn Lane (3pm) and on Tuesday Highgate travel to Dunkirk (7.45)
