Earls progressed to the semi-final of the Smedley-Crooke Cup on Monday with a well-earned victory over a Sutton United team defeated only once in 22 Midland Combination Division 2 league games.
The first half saw some attractive football but no goals with both keepers making excellent saves.
Earlswood took the lead three minutes into the second half when Dale Edwards went on a run down the left beating two defenders and crossing the ball to the far post where Chris Chapman hit it home.
Two minutes later a stunning free kick way outside the Sutton penalty area was struck by top goalscorer Sam Wills into the top corner of the net without the keeper moving.
On Saturday Earls beat Pilkington XXX 4-0 in the Midlands Combination Premier, moving four places up the league in the process. Sam Wills put Earls in front then eight minutes into the second half Charisma Agboglahor found the back of the net.
Dale Edwards scored Earls’ third goal and in the 84th minute after a good move Earls sub James Beauchamp finished with goal number four.
