New-look Solihull Moors opened their pre-season schedule with a creditable 1-1 draw against Kidderminster Harriers at The Autotech Stadium.
Marcus Bignot’s starting line-up contained seven new signings and youth team call-ups but there were no signs of ring-rust as they started the game brightly and opened the scoring after just 12 minutes.
Owen Story, in his first game since arriving from Brackley Town, latched on to a loose ball and squared to Darren Byfield, who provided the pass for Darryl Knights to slot home.
Harriers striker Reece Styche caused problems with his height and his headers created great chances for Callum Gittings and Nathan Blissett, but on both occasions Moors keeper Deale Chamberlain produced fine saves.
Liam Daly, returning for his second spell at Solihull, was also called upon to deny Ahmed Obeng with a brave block before Obeng limped off with a serious-looking leg injury.
The visitors eventually found the equaliser in the 66th minute – Craig Reid running on to a through-ball and chipping it over Chamberlain.
Moors thought they had won it with just a few minutes remaining when Kiddy keeper Daniel Lewis spilled a routine catch. Michael Taylor was in the right place to tap home from close range only for Josh Gowling to make an incredible block.
