Silhill 4 St Francis 0
HAVING slumped to an inglorious 11-1 aggregate League double defeat in the previous season to St Francis, Silhill knew that they had work to do in this home AFA Premier League fixture.
They duly summoned up all their strength to blow away their bogey side from Oldbury.
A 0-0 deadlock at halftime reflected awesome goalkeeping by St Francis’s glovesman Steve Jenkins in the face of a battery of scoring opportunities by Silhill’s tigerish trio of David Icke, Darren Lea and Ross Jackson. Both Icke and Jackson had the ball in the net, but were ruled offside, in the first ten minutes.
But Jenkins could not stop the four mighty cannonball shots fired in later by Silhill Man-of-the-Match Tommy Smith, Lee Powell, Ross Jackson and John Smith.
Steve Powell flicked on a header for Tommy Smith’s goal. Lee Powell volleyed in from Jackson’s banana corner. Jackson robbed a defender and rounded Jenkins before lashing in.
John Smith hammered in from Ricky Badger’s inch-perfect cross.
