A LATE penalty miss and an injury time fifth goal for the home team scuppered any hopes Highgate had of taking a deserved point.

Manager Keith Checketts rested Elroy Bennett and Jake Brown for the trip giving starts to Neil Kitching and DJ Pitt and after enduring early Tipton pressure it was Gate who took a 24th minute lead when full back Andy Fraher headed in Ollie Casey’s cross.

A minute later the lead was doubled - Pitt latching onto Trevor Edwards’ through ball to calmly fire past keeper Jake Woodhouse.

But going into the break Tom Tonks’ 40th minute drive beat Shawn Edwards in goal.

Five minutes into the second half Tonks’ long throw found Reuben Wilson who made no mistake. Sixty seconds later the home side took the lead when after Edwards had saved well Karl Edwards knocked in the loose ball.

Gate drew level though through Pitt only to fall behind again on 83 minutes when, with two balls in play, Gate hesitated while Tonks headed his side back in front. Then a minute from the end Jake Brown failed from the penalty spot after Pitt had been fouled, Tipton catching Gate on the break for Nathan Waite to round Edwards and roll in the final goal.

On Saturday Highgate travel to Hereford to face Westfields.
