HIGHGATE made it back to back wins with this gritty victory Dunkirk on Tuesday evening.

Oliver Casey’s late goal maintaining a good run of form in their fight to avoid relegation, the three points lifting the home side out of the bottom two and level on points but with a better goal difference than Atherstone Town.

It comes on the back of Saturday’s stunning 2-1 defeat of league leaders Coventry Sphinx.

That victory was all the more remarkable as Gate spent the bulk of the second half with only ten men following Nathan Edgington’s dismissal.

By then they were a goal down but a Dan Dineen free kick from 25 yards out on the hour pulled them level before Dave Timmins earned them 80th minute penalty and a red card for Sphinx’s Chris Long. Up stepped Casey to coolly fire the ball home to clinch the win.

Filled with self-belief, against Dunkirk Highgate enjoyed the better of the first half and although failing to create many chances managed to go in front at half time through Timmins.

After the break Dunkirk equalised and went on to dominate the next half hour. Then seven minutes from time and against the run of play, Casey picked up Charlie Checketts’ pass to send an unstoppable drive into the net Highgate’s hopes of MFA football for next season.

On Saturday, Highgate play their penultimate game of the season with Heather St John the visitors (3pm).
