A DISAPPOINTING afternoon for Highgate which should have done better than a draw against a mid table Kirby side reduced to ten men on the half hour.

Gate had come from behind to take the lead only to be pegged back on the stroke of half time, but then failed to capitalise on the man advantage during a second half.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start when with just one minute on the clock Aaron Preston’s cross was headed back across the face of goal for the unmarked Brett Darby to volley home. Liam Florey deservedly levelled the scores after 15 minutes. With Verrall off, Gate responded by taking a 38th minute lead when Ollie Casey’s pass was driven into the box leaving DJ Pitt to turn the ball in from a yard distance. Despite looking in charge Gate were to go in at half time with the lead rubbed out, Ryan Seal equalising from the spot.

On Saturday Highgate travel to Hereford to play Westfields (3pm). In the third round of the Polymac Services League Cup.
