New Highgate manager, Keith Checketts, was left with plenty to think about after seeing his team lose narrowly to a Rocester side which had raced into a three goal half-time lead, Danny Kerrigan’s second-half brace not being quite enough to give the hosts a hard earned draw.
Rocester got off to the perfect start when with just two minutes gone Craig Smith forced the loose ball home in a goalmouth melee.
Ten minutes later Chris Owen beat Sean Edwards in goal with an angled lob.
Chris Owen’s goal three minutes before the break looked to have guaranteed the three points for the visitors, but on 72 minutes Kerrigan hit a 72 minute drive beyond Richard Froggatt’s reach then five minutes a low Kerrigan shot squeezed under the keeper’s body for his side’s second goal.
Elsewhere, Gate lost 5-2 away at Westfield in a match which, despite the scoreline, saw them play much better, Kerrigan giving Gate an early lead, Dan Povey getting the second.
On Saturday Highgate visit Loughborough University (3pm). Tuesday evening sees the visit of newly promoted Tividale to Tythe Barn Lane (7.45pm).
