Coleshill Town 1
Highgate United 2
ELROY Bennett scored twice to earn Highgate only their second league win of the season after Coleshill were reduced to ten men early on in the second half.
A much-changed Highgate went into the game looking for a win to move them out of the relegation zone and made the perfect start when after just five minutes leading scorer Bennett headed home full back Andy Fraher’s pass beyond the reach of keeper Chris Butler.
However with the home side enjoying the better of midfield exchanges, it was no surprise when on 22 minutes the ball fell nicely for Phil Gayle to lash the equaliser past Shawn Edwards.
Then shortly before the half time whistle, Tom Reynolds and Bennett both sent half chances.
The balanced tipped in Gate’s favour when five minutes into the second half Jason Ramsey received a red card following an altercation with Toby Checketts in the box.
Despite the advantage, Gate had to wait until the 72nd minute for the winner when a strong Bennett run ended with a shot squeezed past Butler at the near post.
Gate survived a period of late pressure to ensure the three points which puts them into a far more respectable 17th place.
On Saturday, Highgate play hosts to Loughborough University (3pm) and on Tuesday evening they travel to Stourport Swifts (7.45pm).
Highgate’s second round League Cup tie at Stratford Town has been arranged for Tuesday November 13 (7.45pm)
