Tipton Town 2 Highgate United 1
HIGHGATE are to left to concentrate on MFA league survival after any hopes of silverware for the season were ended following FA Vase defeat at Tipton Town, the home side’s winner coming early in the first half of extra time.
Neither team had done itself justice during a disappointing first half, Gate in particular failing to create any chance worthy of note.
The first half looked to be heading goalless only for home striker Mark Swan to spoil Gate’s half time break with a deflected goal from close range.
Gate raised their game after the interval with Dan Povey twice sneaking in to hit efforts wide at the far post, the deserved equaliser coming with 15 minutes to go. Steffano Abonandi’s persistence gave Karl King a gratefully accepted chance to lift the ball over keeper Lee Evans from the edge of the box.
However Gate were undone when Tipton substitute Daniel Waite powered home a header off Max Bissell’s free kick for what was to prove the winning goal.
On Saturday Highgate are away to Willenhall Town (3pm).
