AT Sharmans Cross Road on Saturday in the AFA Premier a new-look Silhill proved too strong for their mighty opponents who had already twice beaten runaway league champions Sutton United.

With speed kings Justin Perry and Joe Constable flying down the wings, Sils seized the initiative, scoring after 30 minutes when a Tom Sutheran pass found Cameron Knight whose shot cannoned off the underside of the crossbar into the net.

The visitors immediately equalised but two minutes from half time Lee Powell nudged Silhill ahead once more.

Six minutes into the second 45, Silhill’s Chris Flowers leapt high to make an excellent save around his post. Later in the 75th minute he was clutching the ball when it seemed to be kicked out of his hands as St George levelled.

Fired up, Sils replied within three minutes, man-of-the-match Sutheran again the provider for Powell to hammer the ball home.

Silhill then dug in well to ensure the victory, indebted to a fine performance by Flowers between the sticks.
