SIMON Long's late winner gave Shirley an impressive win over Sutton United last week ahead of another tough game against Ajax tomorrow.
During a dull first half that saw both teams fail to get their usual passing game moving, Shirley took an early lead.
Long's right sided cross was met by Mike Mountford who fired in the opener. Both teams struggled to break each other down but on 36 minutes Sutton drew level.
A low 30-yard drive hit the foot of Brown's right hand post, and when the ball came back into play the Sutton striker tapped in to level the scores.
A revitalised Shirley started the second half with more vigour and were unlucky not to re-take the lead through Mountford and Long.
However with time running out Long burst past three defenders and slotted home the winner which moved Shirley up to fourth in the table.
