Cheltenham Town 2
Solihull Moors 1
SOLIHULL Moors go into their final pre-season match against Kettering on Saturday at Damson Park in upbeat mood following a fine showing against League Two outfit Cheltenham Town.
Manager Marcus Bignot pronounced himself satisfied with his team’s fitness, spirit and showing against the full timers and believes his charges are in good shape for the forthcoming Blue Square season.
“We acquitted ourselves really well. Okay we lost, but it was the manner in which we lost which was impressive and shows me we’re going in the right direction,” he said.
“The positives far outweigh the negatives.”
Indeed if there was one thing that did irk the manager it was the poor turnout by the Solihull fans.
“We chose Cheltenham because we thought it would be an attractive fixture not only for us but for the fans as well and we were disappointed in the crowd,” said Bignot.
Those who didn’t travel missed a fine performance by Solihull who went two nil down before Junior English brought it back to 2-1 and were then denied an equaliser late on when a Darryl Knights effort was blocked by goalkeeper Connor Roberts.
However, with his first team squad selected and ready to take the field against Kettering, Bignot is hoping for a good crowd at Damson Park this Saturday before league action begins the following weekend away at Colwyn Bay.
