Solihull Moors 3 Hyde 2
IT took a stoppage-time goal, one of a brace of Matty Smith headers, to bring the Moors all three points and a seven-point cushion in the last Blue Square North play-off spot.
An ill-tempered affair at Damson Park was long on effort and short on quality. Hyde came to rough up the Moors’ neat ‘Dr Jekyll’ passing game, and succeeded.
All provocation, pushes, nudges, taps and complaints to the referee, they ran the Moors close.
Ryan Beswick’s goal on 15 minutes, direct from a 20-yard free kick, was a cracker, and Matty Smith headed home Beswick’s corner from the right in the 37th.
Two Hyde substitutions looked like actions more to prevent a player being sent off than a tactical move.
But if the Moors had controlled the first 45 minutes, Hyde certainly ran the second.
They pulled the two goals back and went for the winner. Only a terrible shot by Dale Johnson and an off-target effort from Barlow kept the scores level.
Deep into injury time, Ryan Beswick sent over a great cross from the right, for Matty Smith to head home.
This was a hard, gruelling match, and the Moorsmen need to be tough if they are to win that coveted play-off place.
