Brackley Town 2 Solihull Moors 1
IF current Blue Square North positions are anything to go by the Blue Square North Play Off final will be between Guiseley and Brackley.
Just three points divide the teams whilst the hunting pack is 16/19 points behind already.
However you wouldn’t have thought there was such a gulf in class against Solihull.
The opening exchanges saw both teams eager to impose and it wasn’t until the 23rd minute that Brackley got the breakthrough Izak Reid. Moors tried for the equaliser but instead it was Jas Singh between the sticks who was keeping Brackley at bay.
With Omar Bogle on, the second half started brightly – on 50 minutes Bogle ran at the Brackley defence but although Ryan Beswick collected the pass he was unable to find a clear shot.
Beswick then fired in a dangerous free kick on 65 minutes but there was no one on the end of it, whilst his shot five minutes later was just off target. However as they pressed Moors were caught on the break, Reid slotting home his second.
Not for a moment did Solihull give up the fight as they played their best football of the day in the final 15 minutes defender Dom Langdon scoring a rare goal.
On balance Brackley edged this game, in no small way thanks to new signing Reid, but Moors should take heart from a dogged performance against their high flying opposition.
Moors are at home to Boston Utd on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
