MOORS progressed to the next round of the Birmingham Senior Cup after what ended up being an easy win against Coventry Sphinx last Tuesday.

The away side made matters hard for themselves, giving away a penalty in the second minute, Matt West’s spot kick was saved but Ross Dempster scored with the rebound.

Solihull were in complete control of the game, restricting Sphinx to just one shot in the first 45 minutes.

Emeka Omwabiko doubled the Moors’ advantage after a beautiful passing move and Dempster doubled his tally from 18 yards.

Sphinx came into the game in the second half and they managed a goal from Kelvin Phillips after he bundled home from a corner.

Moors made it four when Jamie McAteer put the ball into his own net under pressure from Omwubiko.

There was a less successful cup outing for Moors against Curzon Ashton.

Solihull crashed out of the FA Trophy first round for the fourth successive season and against a team two divisions below them.

After a goal-less first half Curzon took the lead in the 48th minute. Moors hit back through a Ryan Beswick penalty in the 89th minute.

The late drama didn’t end there however, Curzon got a 92nd minute winner to send them into the next round and the Moors crashing out.
