New man at Highgate helm

SHIRLEY-based Midland Football Alliance side Highgate United have appointed Mark Burge as their new manager.

SHIRLEY-based Midland Football Alliance side Highgate United have appointed Mark Burge as their new manager.

Burge, who has taken a step up from reserve team boss, took over as caretaker manager towards the end of last season.

Chairman Tony Clancy has now made his position at the helm permanent.

The well known and respected Sunday league referee, the new boss will be will be looking to appoint an experienced number two as he faces the challenge of keeping his side in the MFA.

Burge will be hoping his senior side can emulate the success of Highgate’s under 18 team, which has just enjoyed its most rewarding season ever.

The team finished as champions of the Premier Division (South), Midland Floodlit Youth League, where they remained unbeaten throughout, and also reached the finals of the prestigious Birmingham County Youth Cup.
