EARLS - who reached the final of the Les James Endsleigh Cup last season - have been knocked out by fellow premier division side Nuneaton.
Griff took the lead after just five minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a trip in the box.
Earls began to apply the pressure, winning four consecutive corners but the ball was finally cleared upfield.
Nuneaton went 0-2 up before half time with Ricardo Richards hitting home in a goalmouth melee.
In the second half, Earls’ Recardo Taylor reduced the arrears after the hour mark.
Although Earls were on top for long periods in the second half, Griff increased their lead on a breakaway on 81 minutes with their fourth goal coming two minutes later.
Recardo Taylor got Earls’ second two minutes from time.
Tomorrow (Saturday), in the Midland Combination Premier Division, Earlswood travel to Castle Vale. KO 3pm.
Earlswood Reserves beat Bromsgrove Sporting Reserves 3-2 in the Midland Combination Reserve League, Challenge Urn Round 1.
Tomorrow Earls Reserves are back in Midland Combination Reserve League Division 2 action against Northfield Town.
In the Midland Floodlit Youth League (Southern Division) Earls Youth beat Evesham United Youth 4-2.
Tomorrow, in the first round of the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup, Earls are away to Darlaston Town Youth. KO 7.45pm.
