FOR this first round tie in the Smedley-Crooke Cup, Earlswood Town manager Paul Smith chose this game to give some of his youth team and squad players an outing.

Earls took the lead after just eight minutes when Sam Wills’ cross was hit high into the net by Laurence Martin.

Wills then scored himself, quickly followed by Matt Cross. Earls then took their foot off the gas and leaked two goals themselves to make it 3-2 at half time.

After the break, Cross bagged his second only to see the visitors pull it back to 4-3.

However on 73 minutes a powerful Ronnie Hoffman header found the back of the net with Wills grabbing number six moments later.

The visitors did get a late consolation goal but Earls were happy to see the game out.

Midweek Earls crashed out of the Les James Endesleigh Cup losing 3-2 to second round rivals Blackwood.

On Saturday Earls are back in Midland Combination action away against Southam United.
