HIGHGATE United will take on Solihull Moors for the first time in 12 years in a pre-season friendly.
Despite the local teams only being five miles from each other, the pair haven’t met since they played as founder members of the Midland Combination Division over a decade ago.
Both Solihull Borough and Moor Green played in the division, securing promotions that left Highgate behind. Since then the clubs have merged and Highgate have closed the gap, now playing two divisions below the Damson Parkway club.
Last Saturday, Highgate’s inaugural over-35s five-a-side football tournament was won by Sheldon Heath, who beat Wychall Wanderers 1-0. Organiser Tracy Checketts is hopeful that the tournament becomes a regular fixture and emulates Highgate’s popular five-a-side competition which ran for over 15 years until the mid 90s, with at its peak over 80 teams from all across the Midlands competing.
