Village 4 Shirley Athletic 0
THIS AFA Premier game against Village was always going to be a tough one and despite Shirley having the better of the opening 10 minutes, they were guilty of giving the ball away too easily and in dangerous positions on the park.
One chance was created, an inviting cross-field ball from Matty Whitehouse found the advancing Mike Mountford, who could only clip the outside of the post.
Shirley were guilty of and punished for giving the ball away too many times.
Village’s first goal was a soft one, the ball dropping just over the line as Shirley keeper Adam Cotterill got a hand to it.
The second, again came from ball given away as did the third, the Village striker going through one on one with Cotterill, who again got a hand to the shot but not enough to tip it wide.
Village bagged a fourth 10 minutes from time when,...well, you guessed it....Shirley gave the ball away....the resulting cross evading all the attacking players to fly into the far corner.
Meanwhile in the AFA Junior Cup Village B beat Shirley Athletic 2nds 4-1.
