Shirley battle back to keep in running

Cradley Town 2

* Cradley Town 2 Highgate United 2

Highgate had Luke Keen to thank after he grabbed a last-gasp equaliser last weekend.

Jamie Stockton had fired the visitors into the lead after 25 minutes, but Cradley fought back when Ryan Rowe tucked away a penalty for his 32nd goal of the season.

The hosts took the lead when Azariah Ogarro smashed in a 25-yard strike, but Keen’s late equaliser ensured the points were shared.

On Thursday Highgate progressed to the MFA League Cup semi-final after beating Coalville Town 3-1.

Chris Hayden put them ahead before Chris Waldrum equalised for the visitors.

Second half goals from Neil Kitching and Dave Timmins wrapped up the win.

Tomorrow Highgate travel to Westfields (3.00pm).

* Brereton Social 2 Earlswood Town 0

Earlswood’s slim title hopes were dashed last weekend when they crashed to defeat against fellow contenders Brereton Social.

The hosts took a 46th minute lead and as Earlswood pushed for an equaliser they were punished by conceding a stoppage-time goal that wrapped up the game.

* Cresconians 2 Shirley Athletic 3

KERRY Curtis’ brace helped Shirley fight back to keep the pressure on AFA Premiership leaders Village.

The hosts were 2-0 up after 10 minutes as Shirley’s defence crumbled early on.

Just before half time Ryan Long’s cross was met by Curtis, and after the break the midfielder levelled the scores with his second of the day from the spot.

And with time running out a Long shot cannoned off the cross bar, and off the goalkeeper into the goal.

On Saturday Shirley visit newly-promoted Flamengo.

* Silhill 2nds 3 Village 2nds 1

GOALS from John Bradley, David Johnson, and Tommy Smith produced a 3-1 Bill Hill Cup upset for Division 2 Silhill 2nds against the clear favourites Village 2nds, riding high in Division 1.
