AFA Senior Cup, round 1

A MUCH changed Sils were oh so lucky to survive this 12 goal thriller against this youthful and fearless division 7 Bordesley Green side, founded only last year.

Over two hours of play including extra time, Sils couldn’t get anywhere near Tigers’ star striker Mohammed Mire who powered in four goals that stunned the anxious home crowd into silence. Halane Salad and Zachariah Pierre were the other goalscorers for the visitors.

For Sils Richard Atkinson (2), Lee Powell, Tommy Smith, David Budden and Ben Adams all netted to rescue the situation in a desperate afternoon at Sharmans Cross Road.

Sils took an early two goal lead however by the hour mark Mire had brought the Tigers level, then 3-2 ahead before Salad made it 4-2 with just nine minutes left. But then Sils won a penalty, scored by Atkinson before Budden tied the game at full time.

A sending-off reduced Tigers to ten men from the start of extra time, yet still they pressed forward, Mire making it 5-4 lead and only right back Chris Earp saving a certain sixth. However he only delayed the inevitable as Pierre made it 6-4.

Sils looked dead and buried but then four minutes from time Lee Powell rifled in for 5-6. Then, with an unlucky 13 seconds left for Tigers to survive, Adams ghosted past three players to hammer home the equaliser.
