Village 2 Silhill 3
IN an absolutely enthralling game on Saturday at Great Barr, Tommy Smith’s Silhill completed a sensational AFA League double over the anticipated champions Village.
Star man was former Knowle FC favourite Danny Morris (left) who transformed the match.
On Saturday there was no suspicion of what was to follow when Village set off like a train. On 54 seconds, their prolific goalscorer Jonny Boukhobza fired a piledriver at Andy Masters’ net to open the scoring.
The situation called for a hero, and suddenly Silhill centre midfielder Morris became that man. In the 24th minute, Steve Powell received a pass from Ross Jackson and supplied Morris, who hammered an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Village net. Nevertheless, one minute later, a clearance from Sils’ golden goalie Masters only reached Village’s Mike Robbs who made it 2-1.
Morris was having none of that, and launched his own one-man attack against Village, and on 26 minutes Powell was again the provider for Morris whose looping header gave the awestruck Village defence no chance for the 2-2.
On 68 minutes, just three minutes after coming on, Sils’ super sub Richard Atkinson met a Ross Jackson pull back to smash in the winner.
On Tuesday evening local rivals and bogey team Wake Green defeated Silhill 2-1 using a team which held five 17-year-olds.
