Silhill gift Wake Green three points

ONCE more over-generous Silhill look like keeping their local rivals Wake Green afloat in the AFA Premier Division after gifting them six life-saving points last term.

In Saturday’s 6-1 result at Sharmans Cross Road, Silhill’s lethargic defence let in four goals from Brad Hall and two from his fellow forward, old campaigner Mark Cartwright.

The evergreen Cartwright had collected a Christmas gift ball from home keeper Andy Masters and clipped in from an acute angle after 11 minutes. And yet this fiercely fought derby was still evenly poised at 1-0 until its 63rd minute.

Thereafter Silhill conceded five scores in a disastrous 23-minute horror show. Sils’ only goal joy came two minutes from the final whistle, when their player-manager Tommy Smith was pushed over in the box, allowing Ross Jackson to fire an unstoppable penalty home.

Meanwhile Silhill 2nds bowed out of the London Intermediate Cup, beaten 4-1 by Carshalton 2nds after missing a penalty effort to draw level.

Elsewhere Sils first team have been drawn away against Coventry Alliance One outfit Shilton in the third round of the Birmingham County FA Saturday Junior Cup on December 3.
