Silhill FC will gear up for the start of their Birmingham & District AFA season with a traditional curtain-raiser in memory of a former policeman.
The 23rd annual John Ingram Memorial Match will see a Silhill Select XI take on Solihull Police Division (“L” Division) at Sharmans Cross Road on Sunday at 3pm.
The game will pay tribute to Ingram, an inspector based at Birmingham Airport, who was player-manager of Silhill Veterans.
He died of a heart attack aged just 46 in a pre-season friendly between his team and Sheldene FC at the West Warwicks Club, Olton, in August 1990.
After the match, the John Ingram Memorial Shield will be presented to the winners by his widow, Gill, and Silhill chairman, Roger Hudson.
