Small Heath Tigers 0 Silhill 14
TO boost the gate, this eagerly awaited AFA Senior Cup Round 1 replay against Division 7 Tigers was staged at Sharmans Cross Road instead of Bordesley Green.
This time around, the underdog Tigers were duly tamed and had little to roar about. Scoring six times in the first half and eight in the second, Premier Division Silhill did the simple things leaving their ice-cool goalkeeper Andy Masters with little to do.
Yet, 19 minutes from the end, he had to put his newspaper down to save a freekick with some aplomb.
Hitting the back of the net for Silhill were Ross Jackson (4), Richard Atkinson (4), Ben Clarke (3), Simon Bradbury (2), Tom Sutheran and Steve Powell.
Poised on 13, Jackson is now only one goal behind Ben ‘Sniffer’ Clarke in their shoulder-to-shoulder race for Silhill’s Golden Boot trophy this season.
Their closest challengers, the chasing pack, are fully six scores adrift.
This Saturday tails-up Silhill will face a much tougher challenge, away to the mighty Bolehall Swifts at Tamworth in the Birmingham County FA Saturday Junior Cup.
Meanwhile in the Amateur Football Alliance Lon Intermediate Cup, Silhill 2nds made it through to the fourth round at the expense of Old Garchonians 2nds.
All square at 3-3 after extra time, Sils won on penalties 5-3.
