SOLIHULL nearly had the perfect start after the Blyth goalkeeper Mark Bell caught a routine header, only to slip on the turf and drop the ball - fortunately for him, he reacted quickly and saved any embarrassment.
Solihull began slowly, but as they found their feet, a good corner from Darren Campion evaded several players and eventually came to Indy Khela at the back post. He didn’t expect it though, and the ball hit him and went straight into the goalkeeper’s arms.
Solihull took the lead on the half hour mark after a lovely cross-field ball by Darren Stapleton was well flicked on by Peter Faulds. Khela, who was making a bursting run down the right, latched onto the ball and fed it to Dean Lea who was unmarked in the area and fired it into the top corner.
Despite several chances, Solihull could just not find another before the break and just before the whistle Blyth had a chance of their own - but the pull back found no one.
Blyth came out strongly in the second half and right away had a goal ruled out for offside. Soon after though they equalised after Paul Brayson beat Danny Crane in the Moors goal.
Two minutes later and Blyth should have been 2-1 up; substitute Josh Gillies’ great jinking run led to a super curling shot from the edge of the box which nestled into the bottom corner. But to Blyth’s confusion the goal wasn’t allowed and instead they were given a free kick.
Having allowed Blyth back into the game Solihull pushed for a winner but were unable to find a breakthrough. Two late chances fell to Theo Street but the first flew off his thigh from under the crossbar and the second was flipped just wide.
