SOLIHULL Moors will open the new Blue Square North league campaign with a long trip to Blyth Spartans on August 9.

SOLIHULL Moors will open the new Blue Square North league campaign with a long trip to Blyth Spartans on August 9.

The 450-mile round trip proved to be a worthwhile journey last year as Moors secured their place in the division with an impressive 2-1 victory.

Three days later Danny Davidson will return to Damson Park as Alfreton Town visit the Solihull outfit and there will be another home fixture on Saturday, August 16 as Bob Faulkner's men take on Gainsborough Trinity.

Meanwhile Moors have made their third summer signing by snapping up versatile Simon Travis.

The 31-year-old, who can play on either side of defence or midfield, has joined from Nuneaton Borough following their demotion to Southern League Division One.

The former Hereford United player made 36 appearances in his first season at Borough as they narrowly missed out on the Blue Square North play-offs last year.

He joined fellow new additions Jake Sedgemore and Mike Tuohy when the players returned for pre-season training this week. n Highgate United have been boosted by the news that West Midlands League outfit Brierley Hill & Withymoor have folded which means they will receive automatic qualification into the preliminary round of the FA Cup where they will face Sutton Coldfield-based Romulus.

In the FA Vase first qualifying round, Peter Frain's men face a tricky away trip to Clipstone Welfare.

The Mansfield-based side currently ply their trade in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division. ..SUPL:
