SOLIHULL Moors Youth Team had lead the Midland Floodlit Premier South Division the whole of this season until Monday night when Stourbridge went two points clear in their final game, leaving Moors the champions if they could defeat Stratford on Tuesday.

Moors started strongly with both Cooper and Ballinger going close but on seven minutes a 20 yard screamer from Trey Braithwaite gave Solihull an early lead. He doubled his tally four minutes later when his corner went straight in for number two.

Stratford fought bravely to get back into the game but goalkeeper Miller was in fine form to deny them until on 21 minutes, he brought down Stratford’s number 10, Brain, and from the penalty, the visitors clawed a goal back.

Moors re-grouped and with five minutes of the half to go, Ballinger got his head on the end of a lob from skipper Hayden to send his team in at half time 3 – 1 up.

The second half was all Moors - within a minute Hayden extended the lead with an exquisite shot to the top right hand of the net.

On 72 minutes, Jake Gorman curled in number five and with four minutes remaining, Braithwaite secured his hat trick as he bundled in a loose ball from two yards out – and was knocked unconscious in the resulting clash.

With that Solihull Moors were crowned League champions and now await Redditch United on the May 16 for the final of the League Cup, KO 7.30 pm at Damson Park

Last Wednesday night the Youth Team came from behind three times, before eventually defeating Kidderminster Harriers in extra time at Damson Park in this League Cup semi-final.
