With the sensational 6 – 1 defeat of Stratford which secured the Midland Floodlit Premier South league title just a week earlier, the Solihull Moors Youth team was more than up for last Thursday’s League Cup final against Redditch United at Damson Park.

Redditch, champions of the League’s Southern Division, opened strongly but Moors gradually settled and on 25 minutes a superb 40 yard pass from Man of the Match Jo Ballinger saw Jake Gorman force a fine save from the Redditch goalkeeper.

However it was Redditch who took the lead on 70 minutes through Lewis Entwistle. Moors now swept forward and were rewarded when Ballinger and Gorman split the Redditch defence and Nathaniel McKenzie netted from six yards.

Moors’ winner came in the 88th minute when Gorman carved Redditch open and Casey Roberts was on hand to smash home the winner.

The team, nurtured by club manager Marcus Bignot, has already seen four of its players make their debuts for the senior squad, and the focus on producing young talent was further highlighted on the pitch at half-time, with first team stars Omar Bogle and Reece Fleet signing new contracts at the club.

Also on the first team front, Moors have signed defender Rob Elvins and wide player Mathew Birley from Worcester City.

The club have also offered terms to all of last season’s squad who finished ninth in the Conference North League.

Manager Marcus Bignot is now putting the finishing touches to next year’s team, and is looking to bring in a number of key players.
