FOR the first time in 22 years Solihull Under 13s have won the Walsall FC Cup.

FOR the first time in 22 years Solihull Under 13s have won the Walsall FC Cup.

On Saturday the Solihull District team beat Stafford 1-0 at the Bescott Stadium in the final of the Walsall FC Cup.

The opposition were excellent with a number of outstanding individuals, and they dominated much of the first half with Solihull relying on the counterattack.

However, due to a combination of strong defending and poor finishing, the game remained goaless at half-time.

The second half was a much more even contest with Solihull creating a number of good opportunities.

Finally the deadlock was broken 10 minutes from time when D Kerman (John Henry Newman) scored the winning goal.

M Mannion (St Peters) was man of the match with a superb defensive display.

The team are now looking to complete the double by winning the West Midlands U13 League. A point against their nearest challenges, Wolverhampton Schools, in their last league fixture, will ensure the league title.
