THE girl’s football team at St Alphege clinched the Diocesan Cup for the second year running.
Head teacher Jo Slough said “We were unfortunate in losing our team captain Eve for the tournament due to a broken wrist but this just made the girls more determined to do well.”
The tournament took place at Christ Church School in Sparkbrook with seven teams taking part. The girls started really strongly, winning their first five games before ending with a 1-1 draw in their final match, clinching the trophy on goal difference.
The boys were in similarly excellent form, keeping a clean sheet throughout their event at the Deanery in Walmley.
However on count back they just missed out but had the satisfaction of having their medals presented by professional footballer Deon Burton.
