This was always going to be a difficult encounter for Highgate against a side riding high on the top of the Midland Football Combination.
New boss Marcus McDonald made just two changes to a team which had gone three games undefeated with a clean sheet on each occasion, Jake Sammons earning a place at right full back and Davion Hamilton coming in to midfield. Ian Wilson and Steph Jones both tested the visitors’ defence early on and home keeper Oliver Manuel twice saved well.
Highgate’s play lost its recent edge after the break but they continued to create half chances and should have gone ahead on the hour mark when Tom Thacker hit a penalty kick wide after Kerrigan had been pulled back in the box.
McDonald has brought in Paul Madders as his number two with Paul Maguire taking on one of the coaching roles.
On Saturday Highgate return to league action with the visit of Rocester (3.00pm)
