Tries galore but kicking boots were left behind

CAMP Hill started their pre-season programme with a 35 - 17 win over Derbyshire side Matlock.

CAMP Hill started their pre-season programme with a 35 - 17 win over Derbyshire side Matlock.

The Haslucks Green Road club included several new summer recruits who were quick to catch the eye as Camps soon took the lead when flanker Chris Goddard was driven over.

Matlock responded with a try of their own but further Camp Hill scores followed from scrum half Dave Melville and new centre Jon Ford.

Matlock replied with a converted try before half time, but after the break, Camps began to take charge with further tries from right wing Jermaine Bernard and hooker Adam Willis.

Hosts Matlock made one more intrusion into the visitors defence to score a third and final try.

Camps were far from finished as centre Ian Briggs stormed over from a breakaway try while recruit from the junior section Dan Robinson raced over for a try from the left wing.

One cause for concern from Camps was the fact none of the tries were converted.

Camps complete their pre-season programme with a trip to Leicestershire side Syston on Saturday before opening their Midlands Division One West campaign when the Shirley based side make the short journey to Sutton Coldfield.
