Vibrant show fails to get Silhill the points

SILHILL started 2011 with a vibrant performance in Kings Heath.

SILHILL started 2011 with a vibrant performance in Kings Heath.

After a prolonged winter break Silhill responded with energy and commitment, only to find themselves a goal down after a ‘hit and hope’ effort from Inter Vaughans’ Chris Davies somehow crept into the corner of the net.

A stooping header from Silhill striker Lee Martin levelled the score on 28 minutes from a Andy McDonagh cross.

On 33 minutes Silhill were reduced to ten men when referee Stuart Spence sent off Tommy Smith after the centre half was the perpetrator of a firm challenge.

The home side immediately took advantage, John Healey headed in from a free-kick.

Silhill fought back, Steve Smith’s powerful shot was fended away by the Inter ‘keeper and Lee Martin went close.

With luck not on their side, Silhill conceded 13 minutes into the second half, John Healey grabbed his second from close range.

Deputising Silhill shot stopper Howard Yates went on to make several one-on-one saves against the confident Inter side.

However with a man down, Silhill struggled to get back into the game and the match finished 3-1.

Silhill 1sts are due to face the exotic sounding Flamengo in the not so exotic surrounds of Smethwick this Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
