Earlswood Town kept up their unbeaten start to the season in the Premier Division of the Midland Combination with a good 1-0 away win over a hard working Walsall Wood team.
Earls forced the early pace but their loan keeper Jake Belford from Redditch United had to be called into action on 12 minutes when he made a good save.
Just after this, Scott Devlin went through for Earls but his shot was off target.
Chris Conway then came close on 35 minutes before Earls were grateful to Robert Relf who cleared a shot off the Earlswood goal line.
There was no let up in the second half, Walsall Wood beaten only by a bobbling ball with only Belford left to defend his goal.
Belford was back in action on the hour, brilliantly pushing a cracking shot to the post before diving full length to smother the ball on the re-bound.
Earls then began to claw their way back into the game and a Scott Devlin shot just cleared the home cross bar.
But on 78 minutes, Earls’ Django Farrell went round a full back and was brought down just inside the penalty area and got up to slot the ball home from the spot.
Walsall Wood tried hard for the equaliser but the Earlswood defence with keeper Belford in fine form held out for the three points.
Saturday, Earlswood play Coventry Copsewood, 3pm at home.
