HIGHGATE’S new manager Mark Burge will be relying on youth for the forthcoming Midland Football Alliance season.
The Shirley-based team will have one of the youngest squads in the league, with the majority of the squad made up of last year’s reserve and youth teams.
Top players Tom Giddings and Tom Reynolds have left, and only goalkeeper Luke Harling and centre half Scott Turner remain of the senior players who finished last campaign.
The new boss has added to his back room team bringing in former youth team assistant Mickey Robins as his number two, ex-West Brom player Darren Carmell taking on the club’s coaching role and Paul Maguire continuing as first team physio.
The team starts the new campaign with a baptism of fire - Saturday’s visit to last season’s runners up and promotion favourites Coalville Town (3pm).
That’s followed by a home encounter with a strong Westfields outfit on Wednesday (7.45pm), then a midweek to trip to much fancied Stratford Town.
