A KASHE Evans’ last-gasp lay-up gave Solihull Basketball Academy an 87-85 victory over Richmond College on Saturday and ensured progression to the Elite Eight of the England Basketball Under-18 Play-offs.

Evans struck with just two seconds remaining to help the Sixth Form College students progress to the Elite Eight where they will meet number one seed Derby Trailblazer.

Dorian Benjamin led all scorers with 27 points, including six baskets from behind the three-point arc.

He was joined in double figures by AJ Wareham (19 points and fifteen rebounds), Kofi Josephs (18 points) and Gerry Sanghera (12 points).

Coach Richard Parker was jubilant after the win but reserved praise for the opposition.

“Richmond are a very good basketball team,” he said.

“I have never come up against a team that set so many pick and rolls.

“But I have nothing but admiration for my players.

“They do not want the season to finish.

“They are unselfish, but also realise that there are the players who will hit the numbers game in, game out.”
