HALL Green high-jumper and Olympic hopeful Tom Parsons was a relieved man after reaching the high jump final on count back.
The 26-year-old Birchfield Harrier was in action this week at the European Championships in Barcelona.
Parsons failed with three attempts at 2.26m but squeezed in to Thursday’s final after clearing 2.23m at the first attempt.
“When I started, I thought it was going to be one of my best series of jumps of the year really but after that I just got worse and worse,” he said.
“The way I was jumping, I thought 2.38 was going to be easy but I lost a bit of control on my run up and maybe didn’t attack it enough as I did at the start.
“I’ve just got to jump high in the final now - I came here wanting to do a personal best and that’s still the aim.
“You can’t do much more than a personal best and I’ve given myself the chance to do that now by reaching the final.”
