English National League
Renault Solihull Barons 5 -
Flintshire Freeze 1
SOLIHULL Barons can start to think about winning the league after beating league leaders Flintshire Freeze convincingly at the weekend.
The Barons now face Newcastle on Sunday (6pm) - who moved up to pole position following the Barons victory - knowing that two wins on the bounce will see them leapfrog their opponents into top spot.
In their most important match of season so far, the Barons started brightly and Richard Slater opened the scoring within two minutes, as attacking play went from one end to the other.
Four minutes into the second period Flintshire equalised, but the Barons went ahead again in the 35th minute after Eric Bakalar finished off a good move from Neil Adams and Alex Jones.
Solihull had another power-play a minute before the end of the period and Jones put the Barons further ahead, assisted by Rich Slater.
Defensively it was the best performance of the season and in the final period the Barons remained on top with two more goals from Rob Eley and Neil Adams.
