THE Barons’ lack of training played a part in their narrow defeat to Flintshire Freeze, at the weekend.
Renault Solihull Barons will not have their home rink – Solihull ice rink – open until the end of the month, meaning a lack of pre-season preparations and training.
This was ultimately the only difference between the two teams, who both played their part in an entertaining clash.
The first period was end-to-end, but both net minders managed to keep clean sheets. The second was again very tight with Freeze taking the lead – only to see Solihull equalise through Richard Slater.
Debutant Mike Smith gave a good performance, as did man of the match and goal scorer Slater. The final period saw Freeze become more dominant, as Solihull’s lack of training showed.
Although the Barons never gave up, two late goals saw their opponents skate off deserved winners.
