SOLIHULL Barons started the new year as they finished the last - by powering their way to another league victory.

Over 300 spectators cheered on the Barons at Solihull Ice Rink as they took on fourth-placed Lancashire Raptors.

The league leaders showed why they have remained undefeated all season with a commanding display in the first period, out shooting the Raptors 20-6 and out scoring them 4-0.

Leading scorer Dean Tonks was joined on the scoresheet by Rob Eley, Eric Bakalar and Phil Lee.

The Barons added three more goals in the second period, Rich Slater, Adam Andrews and another from Tonks extending the Barons lead as the Raptors managed a solitary goal in reply.

Despite being 7-1 down in the final period the Raptors, who are enjoying their most successful season, kept up their competitive spirit. The game became very physical with several fights breaking out.

Raptors pulled one goal back through Steven Hetherington, but the Barons scored twice more through Lui Brindle and Rob Eley.

Hetherington completed his hat-trick for the Raptors with another goal but Tonks scored once more to take the Barons into double figures for the eighth time this season.

The final score was 10-3 to the Barons with Dale Buckland picking up man of the match.

The Solihull side’s next home match is on Sunday January 23 at Solihull Ice Rink against the in-form Sutton Sting.
