SOLIHULL’s premier ice hockey team, the Renault Solihull Barons, begin their campaign at Sheffield on Sunday.
The Barons, who are in the English National League Northern Division 2, will face Sutton Sting in the opening clash.
It as been a difficult pre-season for the Barons as the Solihull rink that they use has been closed for refurbishment since April, meaning they have been preparing at Coventry and Telford ice rinks.
Not only has this hindered their training, but it will mean that the Barons will not play a proper home game until October 23 - ten games into the season.
Chairman of the club, John Butler, said that despite the setback, he is optimistic of a very good campaign.
He said: “This coming season, the Barons are determined to win promotion to the first division and head coach Darren Bellerby believes he has the team to do this.
“The Barons are still the second highest supported team in Solihull after the Bees, with attendances averaging over 250 last season.”
