Evesham 207-7 v Berkswell 210-2
A top batting display from skipper Dominic Ostler ensured Berkswell moved back to the top of Division 1 following their eight wicket victory at Evesham.
Choosing to bat first the home side were soon in trouble when seamer Dave Brignull bowled Evesham’s South African skipper Matt Snyman (1) in the ninth over with the score on 16.
However, this proved to be the only wicket to fall early on as youngsters Joe Dodd and George Rhodes kept the scoreboard ticking over adding another 91, but the curse of the drinks break struck with first Dodd (68) then Tom Underhill (1) falling to leave the hosts 122 for 3 in the 33rd over.
Rhodes looked impressive with the bat and the score was pushed up to 201 when he was yorked by Dave Brignull for 83, Evesham closing on 210 - 7 with Brignull ending with 3 for 37 off 13 overs.
The Berkswell reply started briskly with James and Phil Neale, assisted by a plethora of wides, advancing to 43 until in the 11th over Phil Neale (22) was bowled by James Cutler. Chris Cheslin (6) fell to Cutler eight runs later, Ostler taking his place in the middle.
The former Warwickshire star then proceeded to give a match winning quality batting display.
In two brutal overs Ostler helped himself to 33 runs as the demoralised Evesham attack tried eight bowlers in an attempt to halt the assault, but it proved impossible.
Ostler blitzed his way to 106 not out (20 4’s and 1 six), with Neale 58 not out.
A delighted Ostler said: “Another great team effort has put us back on top after a couple of setbacks. Again we bowled well and then, when we batted, we got off to another great start. Naturally I’m pleased with my own performance but I’m also really thrilled by the way the team has responded so positively following the disappointment of the defeat.”
On Saturday Berkswell play hosts to Shifnal at Meeting House Lane.
