THE first round of the Mercian Summer Swimming League saw Blythe Barracudas drawn against some top clubs in the group.
There were some gutsy swims from the entire team, leading to a 4th place finish overall. For the girls, 19 year old Nicola Smith got the event of to a great start, with success in the 4 x 100 individual medley followed by 3rd place in the 100m freestyle.
Twelve-year-old Helena Paris achieved 2nd place in the 100m freestyle and third in the 100m backstroke. 15 year old Amy Greenhill also took a 2nd place in the 100 breaststroke with 11 year old Scarlett Flynn taking 3rd in the 100m breaststroke. The girls 12 year old relay team excelled finishing 1st in both the medley and freestyle races.
For the boys it was 16 year old Matthew Austin who shone – in a closely fought race, Matthew not only achieved victory in the boys Open 100m freestyle but he also smashed his previous personal best time of 1 minute by finishing the race in 58 seconds.
Other notable swims came from Leo Sarigins who finished second in both the 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle along with the 14 year old boy’s team who got 3rd place finishes in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly courtesy of Jack Wilson Tom McNutt and Jamie Edwards.
