Berkswell 276/6 dec Coventry & North Warwicks 130 all out
A superb spell of spin bowling by Babar Khan kept Berkswell at the top of Birmingham Premier League Division 1 in this 146 run demolition of their near neighbours.
Invited to bat first Berkswell got off to a steady start reaching 108 off 28 over in a rain affected spell.
The arrival of skipper Dominic Ostler to the crease further increased the run rate as the former Warwickshire star took the bowling apart, eventually being caught on 89 by Aaron Lewis. Ostler immediately declared on 276 for 6.
The earlier rain delay reduced the overs to 45 for the visitors and openers Stefan Piolet and Aaron Lewis made slow progress.
The breakthrough for Berkswell came in the 12th over when Lewis (11) was trapped LBW by Chris Cheslin.
Babar Khan then claimed his first wicket and then went on to bowl Luke Reeves (15).
Then Mike Pickering was adjudged LBW first ball to give Khan two wickets in two balls, both wickets falling at 98. Harry Horsley survived the hat-trick ball but half of the Coventry side had now been dismissed within 30 overs.
The visitors continued to struggle before Khan, with 12 bals left, trapped Ken Watkins (4) LBW, Humais Butt (0) LBW first ball and then bowled Mark Lilley (0) also first ball to take three wickets in three balls and clinch victory for Berkswell.
Khan finished with figures of 13.4 overs 4 maidens 7 for 23.
A beaming Dominic Ostler said: “What a great result for us and what a tremendous way to wrap up a game. Babar’s performance was the icing on the cake for another fantastic team effort.”
