Centurion ensure survival at the last Birmingham Cross Country League

CENTURION Running Club turned out in force for the final round of the League.

CENTURION Running Club turned out in force for the final round of the League.

The Chelmsley Wood-based runners knew a poor performance would result in demotion to division three.

Fortunately, this was anything but.

The venue was Cofton Park, Birmingham, with some sunshine but with a cool wind keeping the temperature down.

The ladies were represented by Teresa Woolley, Sharon Townley and Lucy Gresswell. All three worked hard to maintain the ladies’ team’s position in the league and put in fine performances across the hilly course that greeted them. Next up was the men’s team which fielded no fewer than 15 runners. The course was three laps of the perimeter of the park, just over six miles, with some challenging hills along the route.

The men also put in a strong performance and finished over 70 points ahead of their nearest rivals on the day, ensuring second division survival by more than 25 points.

Runners included Paul Davis, Ian Satterthwaite, Trevor Baccioci, Andy Rea, Andy Matthews, Seth Atkins, Kevin Baldry, Paul Bingham, Marc Curtis, Tony Haden, Doug Talbot, Gavin Davies, Kevin O’Malley, Neil Wilkes and Chris McCann.
