STUDENTS from Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club were celebrating again following success at the British Championships in Nottingham.

Cheryl Timmins won the women’s British title, which she can now put with the English title she gained earlier in the year, and Sam Giles picked up a well-earned silver in the black belt division.

Both students train under the guidance of former World Champion Steve Merricks at Light Hall School in Shirley, who has produced a stream of National Champions over the years.

“The British Championships is the biggest national tournament for us with over 1,500 competitors taking part,” said Steve.

“I am proud of all my students who took part, especially the medal winners who thoroughly deserve their success.

“It’s always a pleasure to see my students achieve whatever goals they may have through their training at the club”

For 2010 Steve will be running women’s only self defence courses and a new children’s club. For more information contact him on 07980 582 845 or visit www.shirleytkd.co.uk
